Legislative Fly-In

2012 Legislative Fly-In, Feb. 78, 2012

Legislative session started early this year because lawmakers must tackle reapportionment, the re-drawing of congressional and legislative districts that happens every ten years. Show your leadership and help FAIA advance your association's legislative goals by attending the annual Legislative Fly-In. It may not be the largest event of the year, but it is just as—if not more —important to agents' futures. What happens at Fly-In? You'll be armed with important information about the issues and legislation affecting the insurance industry.

Members are strongly encouraged to meet with their legislators to share their concerns about, or support for, pending legislation. Here's how to set that up:

  • Find your legislators.
  • Check to see if one or more of them are on FAIA's list of key legislators. It's imperative FAIA members visit with these key lawmakers during Fly-In.
  • Make an appointment. If you need help scheduling an appointment, contact Melissa Weaver.
  • Fly-In attendees will be grouped by geographic region, so first-timers and others who may not have been able to schedule appointments ahead of time will still have an opportunity to meet with legislators.

Each year, Fly-In is held in conjunction with the Young Agents Political Summit. Members of the Young Agents Council arrive a day early (February 6) for the Political Summit, which kicks off with the InsurPac-A-Thon, followed by an introduction and discussion on the legislative process.
