DATA REPORTING This is a biennial surveyasking independent agents to rate companies in the stated categoriesfrom "1" (Poor) to "5" (Outstanding). Although agents returned 805 surveys thisyear, only carriers with six or more responses (some 28 companies) wereincluded in the final tally. You'll see the top score listed in every category. For example, looking at the Personal Auto category under Competitiveness(Exhibit 3), you will find that Auto Owners and GMAC arerated as the most competitive with direct writers. We also calculated the averages for the top fivecompanies in each area of the survey. For example, in the"competitiveness" area for commercial property we took the companyrating for each sub-category and averaged it to come up with thecompany's overall "competitiveness" rating without regard to agencycompany or direct writer competitiveness. We did, however, leave thedistinction between personal and commercial lines since some companiesdo not write both or just write a single line, like workers'compensation or private passenger auto. Every attempt was made to screen responses foraccuracy and relevancy. The questionnaire is based on first impressionsgiven by agents who have usually dealt with a company for long periodsof time. Also, if only one respondent indicated that a company had themost competitive price in a particular line, which it did not sell inFlorida, that obviously erroneous response was not included in thetotals. |
