The time has finally arrived to get your agency licensed. The Department of Financial Services has set up the agency licensing system on their Licensing database. This is where you also apply for licenses, appointments, and address changes (link to DFS licensing website). Before you get started you will need to keep a few things in mind:

  • The agency licensing process is strictly automated. There will not be a paper application
  • The application must be submitted by October 1, 2006
  • Know the difference between registering your agency and licensing your agency (click here for the Q&A; when in doubt, you should go ahead and "license.")
  • There is no charge
  • If you miss the October 1, 2006 deadline, you could be subject to a $10,000 fine
  • No, that was not a typo-$10,000 fine

We have included on your FAIA website three different forms of information that will make the licensing process very easy.

First is a “Frequently Asked Questions” that covers every aspect of Agency licensing. (licensing Q&A)

Second is a bulleted memo that highlights the most important parts of the new licensing requirement. (click here for licensing core memo)

Third is a graph that puts the process in a simple, easy to understand process. This will look good in most agency break rooms. (click here for DFS Agency Graph)

You can only apply online; however, if you're having trouble with the agency licensing system at DFS, there is a direct line to call: 850-413-3137, be sure to select option 8.This is the phone bank dedicated to agency licensing questions.
