Hurricanes & cancellations

With Ernesto out there many carriers may "shut down" Monday. Check the link below for a new statute dealing with what happens if a policy is supposed to cancel when a company has shut down. If a risk is with an admitted carrier the policy can't cancel or non-renew for any reason during a "hurricane" as defined in the statute. "Hurricane" is defined as beginning when the first hurricane warning or watch is posted anywhere in Florida and continues until 72 hours after the last watch/warning is dropped. The statute applies to residential risks (personal and commercial) but does not apply to commercial non-residential and other coverages such as CGL, WC, etc.

The link below has several examples. http://www.faia.com/web/2005/11/hurricanes_cancellations_and_nonrenewals.aspx
