  • How can I register for CRIS courses?

You may register for CRIS courses by going to FAIA's Events page. CRIS classes are entitled Commercial Liability Insurance for Contractors (CRIS Day 1), Contractual Risk Transfer in Construction (CRIS Day 2), Commercial Auto, Surety, CIPS, & Misc. Lines (CRIS Day 3), Property Insurance for Contractors (CRIS Day 4), and Workers Compensation for Contractors (CRIS Day 5), respectively.

From the events page, simply find the class(es) you would like to register for, click on it, then click the Register button at the lower right of the screen to register online, or click the Brochure button, also at the bottom right, to download and submit a printable registration form.

  • Do I have to take each CRIS class in a particular order?

No, much like our AAI and AIAM classes, you may take the classes in any order.

  • Can I enroll in individual CRIS classes, or do I have to complete the entire series?

Students are free to take individual CRIS courses OR complete the entire series. As an added bonus, those students who complete the designation will receive a $40 voucher toward future CE classes with FAIA.

  • Is there a test required after completing each class?

Those students seeking the CRIS designation must take and pass an online test with a minimum score of 70% after taking each class. The test is comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions. The exam is open-book and has a "Pause" button that allows the student to stop the test at anytime and save their answers. The exam may be paused for as long as 6 months before the student would need to restart the test.

By attending the class the student will be given a voucher good for one testing attempt per CRIS class. For example, if the student takes the GL CRIS class they will be awarded a voucher at the class they can apply to the cost of taking the GL CRIS online exam. The vouchers are good for 13-months from the time they are issued by FAIA. Once the student redeems the voucher, they will have one-year from the date of redemption to actually complete the course.

If the student falls short of the minimum score, he or she is responsible for paying $10 to take another online exam.

Exams can be taken any time after completing a class but cannot be taken without taking the class.

After successfully passing all parts of the CRIS curriculum (with a minimum of 70% per exam) the student is awarded the designation.

There is an online review test for each exam, comprised of approximately 25 multiple-choice questions. The review test is meant to prepare the student for the exam and is not in addition to or replacement of the final exam.

The results of the review test are provided as you complete the appropriate test section, and final exam results are provided immediately upon completion of the exam. The review test lets you know what you marked incorrect, whereas the final test does not indicate which questions were answered incorrectly. Only a final score is provided.

Note: Those students not seeking the designation are NOT required to test!

  • What if I do not pass one or more of the tests on the second try?

You may retake the test(s) as many times as necessary to achieve the minimum score. You must pay the $10 test fee with each attempt.

  • What is the cost obtaining the CRIS designation?

Each individual course is offered for $225 for FAIA members and $323 for nonmembers. Students can receive a $30 discount if they register online.

  • Are course textbooks shipped to registrants in advance of the class?

Those registrants who wish to have books pre-shipped may do so by paying an additional $15 shipping fee per book.

  • Is there a specific timeframe in which students seeking the designation are required to complete it?

    No.

  • If I do not take all of the CRIS classes offered in my area this year, will they be offered next year?

We strive to rotate our class schedule somewhat so that FAIA members statewide can take advantage of our CE courses. As such, there is no guarantee that the CRIS courses would be offered in your city two years in a row. Some travel may well be required, but hopefully within a manageable driving distance.
