HEALTH INSURANCE PRODUCER GROUPS JOINT FLY-INFAIA, in conjunction with IIABA, will participate in the Health Insurance Producer Groups Joint Fly-In, July 14-15, 2009, in Washington, D.C. We must send a message to Congress about the important role of agents and brokers in the sale and delivery of health insurance and how that benefits consumers. We need your presence in Washington meeting with your congressmen. While there are still many logistics to work out, IIABA is working diligently to confirm appointment times with congressmen. These appointments will be made by IIABA on July 15 between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We understand the uncertainty of these appointments may affect flight times and the number of nights in Washington. We understand and share your concerns here. See the notice below from IIABA, which will give you information on registering for the Fly-In. Once you have registered, you will receive an email on how to make your room reservation at the Grand Hyatt Washington. IIABA has reserved a block of rooms for the night of July 14 at the special rate of $199. Space is limited and it is anticipated that the block will fill up quickly. To help ease the financial burden of this trip, FAIA will offer $500 scholarships (one per agency-limited to the first 35 agencies that register). Once you have registered, IIABA will let us know and we will issue this scholarship to your agency. Your participation is vital. Please make every effort to attend this important Fly-In and let your voice be heard. If you have any questions, or need additional information, please contact FAIA Director of Governmental Affairs and General Counsel Laura Pearce at 850-893-4155 ext. 373 or lpearce@faia.com. IIABA members will be joined in Washington, D.C. by members of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU), the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). As we have previously mentioned, both the House and Senate are scheduled to consider health care reform legislation in mid to late July. We need your help in Washington now more than ever. It is critical that we send a loud and clear message to Congress about the important role of agents and brokers in the sale and delivery of health insurance and how that benefits consumers. Please make a point of stressing the great importance of this fly-in to your state memberships. This information will also be published in this week's IN&V - please take a look at this week's issue when it is circulated tomorrow. What are we up against? Earlier this week, it was reported that several interest groups are banding together to spend $82 million on a campaign in support of the public plan. While they have much more money to spend on this campaign, our strong grassroots network has proven time and time again to be very effective. We need to leverage that grassroots strength through this fly-in. Please let us know if you have any questions.
